The Australian Veterinary Acupuncture Group is a special interest group of the Australian Veterinary Association and represents veterinarians who are interested in or qualified in veterinary acupuncture. It is also the official IVAS Affiliate in Australia
The Group provides member services and a vehicle for developing the field of veterinary acupuncture in Australia. We achieve this through education and on-going training and accreditation of veterinarians and by promoting the integration of acupuncture into veterinary practice to create and maintain optimal health in all animals.
In the USA, specialty status (Board certification and Diplomat status) for advanced veterinary acupuncture study is underway, recognizing this valuable tool in the treatment of numerous conditions from allergies and behavioural problems to musculo-skeletal and immune mediated diseases.
In Australia more than 450 veterinarians have been trained to international standards set by the International Veterinary Acupuncture Society (IVAS). Certified veterinarians are entitled to use the letters CVA (Certified Veterinary Acupuncturist) and must maintain membership and continuing education credits in acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine to use the letters CVA (IVAS). http://www.acuvet.com.au
